Japan provides $3.87mln grant for polio eradication efforts in Pakistan

Japan has extended its support to the Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme by providing more than 3.87 million dollars as a grant. In this regard, an agreement was signed between the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Islamabad on Thursday. Minister for National Health Services Abdul Qadir Patel was present during the signing event. The grant will be used for the procurement of essential oral polio vaccine, which will reach more than 18.61 million under five years old children in Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, the Federal Minister said the government is committed to eradicate polio by 2023. He said the Programme has successfully restricted virus circulation to endemic districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Source: Radio Pakistan
