Islamabad police review security arrangements for LG elections

Islamabad, June 25, 2015 (PPI-OT): Islamabad Police on Thursday reviewed security arrangements for first ever local government elections in the Capital to ensure complete implementation on code of ethics of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The meeting presided over by IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan was attended among others by SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani, SP (Traffic) Khalid Rasheed, SP (Special Branch) Zubair Sheikh, SP (Rural) Yasir Afridi, SP (Industrial Area) Rana Tahir, SP (Saddar) Habib Ullah Niazi, SP (City) Ahmed Iqbal, all SDPOs, DSP CIA, DSP Rescue 15, DSP (Security), SHOs and Muharrars.

The meeting reviewed the security arrangements for 79 union councils, 800 polling stations and 3200 polling booths for local government elections. The SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani briefed the policemen as how to ensure effective security on the occasion and also to submit report with his office about security duties so that elaborate plan may be finalized.

IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan said there will be complete ban on display of weapons on the eve of local government elections. He directed all police officials to conduct security survey in their respective areas and submit report about sensitive polling stations. He said that it would be ensured to hold elections in conducive environment as per code of ethics by ECP.

He directed to enhance patrolling during the canvassing campaign by the candidates so that no untoward incident can occur. He said that Pakistan is a peaceful democratic country and conducive environment will be ensured on eve of LG elections.

“There will be a positive message in the country through peaceful elections in Capital,” he said, adding that police of other districts will be also called for security arrangements on this occasion. “Police will not spare an one trying to disrupt the peaceful environment on this occasion,” the IGP Tahir Alam Khan added.
