Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Calls for encouraging Pakistani Authors

Islamabad: The launching ceremony of a book titled “Common Sense Economics”, simplifying the concepts of business successes for local businessmen was held at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) in collaboration with Economic Freedom Network Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Yassar Sakhi Butt, President ICCI said that most of the books on economics available in our market are written by foreign authors and their examples do not relate to our economic scenario.

He appreciated the efforts of Dr. Ayub Mehar for giving this book a Pakistani colour and look wherein he has discussed many examples from domestic economy like investors behaviour in the Karachi Stock Exchange, fiscal deficit, growing debt of Pakistan, fixing minimum wage rate, interest rate ceiling, determination of prices by the regulators for sugar, electricity, oil and motor vehicles, anti-dumping duties of polyester stable fibber, financing for higher education institution and many other core issues.

ICCI President stressed upon the Government to encourage local authors which would ultimately increase the number of helpful books on all subjects containing domestic illustrations.

Dr. Ayub Mehar, Author of book titled “Common Sense Economics” expressed hope that the Pakistani edition of the book would change the way of economic thinking and attitude of people as book covered the basic concepts of economics and applied them to both macroeconomic grounds and personal decision-making.

He said that Pakistani version of Common Sense Economics has provided a transformation of scientific jargons, complicated philosophies, econometric models and mathematical formulations into common language. A very interactive question and answer session followed the presentation.

Highlighting the significance of the book, Zubair Malik, Chief Coordinator of Economic Freedom Network Pakistan and former President ICCI said that the writer has done a good work to simplify economic concepts for the common practitioners, adding that the book becomes more important as the present world is near to completion of its transformation regime. He also appreciated the help extended by Friedrich Naumann Foundation without whose contribution this book would not have been published.
