Int’l Day for Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism being observed today

The first ever "International Day for Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism" is being observed today.

The purpose of observing the day is to raise awareness about the threats linked to violent extremism, as and when conducive to terrorism, and to enhance international cooperation in this regard.

In his message on the occasion, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that fastest growing neo-Nazi and white supremacist movements are becoming more dangerous and represent the top internal security threat in several countries.

He urged these countries to confront the challenge through prevention, and by addressing the underlying conditions that drive terrorism in the first place.

The UN Chief said the terrorism threatens collective efforts to promote peace and security, protect human rights, provide humanitarian aid and advance sustainable development.
