Inquiry Commission on enforced disappearances holding proceedings regularly

Islamabad, June 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances comprising the former Senior Justice of Supreme Court, Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal and Mr. Muhammad Sharif Virk, Member has been conducting proceedings of the cases of Enforced Disappearances regularly with the assistance of Law Enforcing Agencies for tracing out the Missing Persons.

Proceedings of the Commission are being held at Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Quetta periodically. On 1st Jan, 2011, 138 cases of Missing Persons were pending. During the period of 1st Jan, 2011, to 11th June, 2013, 1034 new cases were received in the Commission; enhancing the total numbers to 1172 out of which 415 cases have been disposed off and current balance of the cases under investigation is 757.

During the month of May, 2013, the proceedings were held at Islamabad cases of 8 Missing Persons have been disposed of. The names/parentage of these Missing Person are Abdul Wahid Tabassum S/O Muhammad Hanif (Traced), Fazale Rab Peerzada (Not a case of ED), Ahmed S/O Mushtaq Ahmad (Traced), Muhammad Irfan S/o Abdul Manan (Confined in Internment Centre Lakki Marwat), Khairullah S/O Hameedullah (Confined in Internment Centre Lakki Marwat), Arif Shah Khan alias Areef Shah S/O Murad Khan (Confined in Internment Centre Lakki Marwat), Sajid Ali Shah S/O Muhammad Ali Shah (Dead body recovered), Abdul Rasheed S/O Mir Afzal (Deleted due to other reasons-Declared as deserter).

The Commission of inquiry on Enforced Disappearance is committed and determined to make all out efforts to trace the Missing Persons.
