India’s apathy towards IOK flood victims deplored

Srinagar, June 16, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has hit out at India and its puppets in the territory for not rehabilitating the victims of devastating floods of September 2014.

The APHC Chairman addressing a function at Rajouri Kadal in Srinagar said, “Despite passing of over nine months since the devastating floods ravaged Kashmir, the affected people are still awaiting their rehabilitation.”

The function was organized to hand over the key of houses to several flood victims in Srinagar. The houses were reconstructed by Dar-ul-Khair, Mirwaiz Manzil, a charity organization headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The commitments and promises made by New Delhi and pro-India Peoples Democratic Party during the so-called elections on rehabilitation of flood victims turned out to be a hoax, he added.

“Kashmiris must realize that in this challenging situation, they have to help each other to rebuild Kashmir and strengthen our institutions,” the Mirwaiz said. “Resilience and courage displayed by the Kashmir people during and after floods is appreciable. Dar-ul-Khair carried the relief and rehabilitation of flood-hit people irrespective of their religion or political beliefs,” he added.

On the occasion, a documentary on relief and rehabilitation measures undertaken by Dar-ul-Khair was also screened. Besides ulema and civil society members, people from different walks of life participated in the function. Pertinently, the Mirwaiz had launched the housing initiative for flood victims from the house of a Kashmiri Pandit, Moti Lal of Mandir Bagh on November 19, last year.
