Indian troops mercilessly beat civilians in Mattan

Srinagar, July 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, at least 10 persons were injured, when Indian paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) mercilessly beat them up at Akoora in Mattan area of Islamabad.

The CRPF personnel of 96 Battalion beat up the pedestrians including boys and an employee of Power Development Department.

“I went to give water to the injured persons, the CRPF men caught hold of me and thrashed me severely,” said Mushtaq Ahmad Hajam, a PDD employee admitted in the hospital.

The boys said that the CRPF men also robbed them of money. “They beat up without any reason and tore my clothes,” said Jehangir Amad, who had received multiple injuries. “The police men posted there did not do anything to save us and acted as mute spectators.”

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL), Mukhtar Ahmad Waza visited the Akura area of Mattan to meet the victims and their families.

He condemned the highhandedness of troops and said that such type of right violations by the Indian forces needs would not be tolerated. He said that New Delhi had unleashed a region of terror in the territory.

He also visited the family of a victim driver undergoing treatment at a hospital. He is in a critical condition.
