India should stop treating Kashmir as colony: JRL

Srinagar, July 08, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik has strongly condemned the Indian forces for killing three civilians including a teenage girl in Redwani area of Kulgam, yesterday.

The JRL in a statement issued in Srinagar said, firing live bullets on civilians in order to kill them reflects the policy of the Indian government to crush all dissent with use of absolute force and might. “It becomes clear that a green signal has been given to forces to wipe off Kashmiris without any distinction of being armed or unarmed,” it maintained.

“All those who raise their voice against military presence or protest it, would be dealt firmly by eliminating them with absolute impunity is the message that is being given to people of Kashmir by such barbaric killings. The idea is to instill fear among people,” they said.

The leaders said killings, incarceration, torture and harassment won’t stop them from demanding their right to self-determination nor will incarceration torture and harassment. They asked India to stop treating Kashmir as a colony. “People of Kashmir have shown that they will never give in to fear and repression nor will they be cowed down by India’s militaristic might,” the leaders said.

Reiterating that people of Kashmir are peaceful and want peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, they said, “India has to understand that it cannot hold on to Kashmir or force Kashmiris into submission by using absolute force forever”. Terming the present political situation in Kashmir as catastrophic, the leaders urged the international community to take note of the worst human rights violations and oppression being perpetrated here by the Indian forces.

Gilani, Mirwaiz and Malik also strongly denounced the fresh wave of CASOs across south Kashmir. Condemning harassment, arrest and torture of youth and vandalizing of property, they said these measures are nothing but a political vendetta aimed at breaking the resolve of people.”
