Government Takes Measures for Control of possible Outbreak of Dengue in the Federal Capital

Islamabad: On the directives of the President and Prime Minister, the Secretary Cabinet chaired a meeting to review the situation regarding the possibility of outbreak of Dengue in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

The following decisions were taken to ensure prevention and control of Dengue fever in the Federal Capital,

Formulation of a special Task Force under the DG Health Emergencies Cabinet with DHO Health ICT and Director Health CDA. Representatives of Un Agencies and PRCS.

A Dengue ward to be established at the CDA Hospital to cater for possible complicated Dengue cases for provision of comprehensive Medical care.

Early completion of fumigation of entire Islamabad to be completed on war footing to avoid spread of Dengue in the Federal Capital.

Social mobilization and mass awareness campaigns including educational institutions and public offices to be undertaken by CDA and ICT administration.

A detailed briefing was given by the DG Health Emergencies followed up by an update by the DC, on measures taken to control the breeding sites by using larvacidal agents and distribution of educational materials in the rural areas and later by Director Health CDA on fumigation by CDA in the urban areas.

The Chairman CDA informed that nearly 50% of the urban areas have been fumigated and the number of teams would be increased immediately as directed by the Cabinet Secretary.

The Secretary Cabinet directed all concerned to monitor the initiatives being undertaken by their respective departments and report compliance on regular basis.

The meeting was attended amongst others by the Chairman CDA, DC Islamabad and DG Health Emergencies Cabinet Division. UN Agencies including WHO, UNICEF and UNFPA also participated.
