Government continues to provide relief to electricity consumers

Islamabad, June 11, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Ministry of Water and Power today notified NEPRA approved tariff for the year 2014-15. There is no additional burden or increase in tariff for the majority of consumers i.e. falling in the categories between 1 to 300 units. Additionally in the tariff category for consumers between 200 to 300 units the tariff is even lower than the previous year.

The Government will continue to provide subsidy for the consumers in the low categories, i.e. unto 300 units and domestic consumers up to 300 units consumption, existing rates will continue with no additional burden. The government as a policy continues to give relief to domestic and agriculture consumers through subsidizing the electricity tariffs.

Domestic consumer’s upto 50 units have been provided a relief of 2 Rs/unit on their NEPRA determined tariff of 4 Rs/unit. Similarly consumers falling in slabs of upto 100 units have provided relief of 3.21 Rs/unit on their NEPRA determined minimum tariff of Rs. 9.0/unit, consumers in slabs of upto 200 units have provided relief of 2.09 Rs/unit on their NEPRA determined minimum tariff of Rs. 10.2/unit and consumers in slabs of upto 300 units have also been provided relief their NEPRA determined average tariff.

Similarly the Agricultural consumers will remain under the existing subsidised flat tariff. Accordingly for the rest of the consumers the electricity rates will remain almost same.
