Government College of Technology producing demand driven skill youth: Tariq Masud

Islamabad, December 13, 2013 (PPI-OT): Mr. Yuji Kurokawa, Chief Advisor of project “Centre of Excellence at GCT, Lahore” established by National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) under Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) met with Executive Director NAVTTC, Capt.® Tariq Masud today at NAVTTC HQs, Islamabad. He apprised the Executive Director about the successful completion of the project.

The Government College of Technology (GCT), Lahore was considered as a leading institute, however, it was facing problems such as an outdated curriculum, which had not been revised for more than 10 years, insufficient number and quality of trainers, unavailable placement service, week linkage with Industrial sectors etc.

Therefore, considering the need in TVET sector, the project was started by NAVTTC in 2008 to enhance the capacity of the Institute and to provide quality education in Mechanical and Architecture courses being demand driven trades for competency based training.

Both sides were of the view that such type of cooperation needs to be enhanced further in future, which shall strengthen the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Japan particularly in the Technical Education and Vocational Training (TVET) sector.

Executive Director, NAVTTC appreciated the cooperation of JICA and paid the words of thanks to Mr. Yuri Kurokawa for the efforts made by JICA and him for the successful completion of the project. GCT, Lahore is now providing competency based training in Mechanical and Architecture trades, which is a pressing demand of skilled youth in the market. At the end of the meeting, Capt. Tariq Masud presented souvenir to Mr. Yuji Kurokawa.
