Gilani concerned about Fakhtoo’s deteriorating health

Srinagar, July 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health of illegally detained Hurriyet leader, Dr Mohammad Qasim Fakhtoo and demanded his immediate release.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Qasim Fakhtoo was being subjected to a political vengeance, as he was not released even after completing his jail term.

He also expressed concern over the negligence of jail authorities regarding Fakhtoo’s health and appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) stationed in occupied Kashmir to use its influence to carry the assigned job of arranging immediate medical aid for him.

He said that besides suffering from severe backache, Dr Fakhtoo’s eyesight was also fading in jail.

“The fact that Dr Qasim was being held even after his jail term ended a year ago is a clear indication of political vendetta against him which the puppet Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah expressed, on records by saying that he wanted to see him breathe his last in prison,” Gilani deplored.

“Normally life imprisonment meant 14 years in jail but under TADA the term has been extended up to 20 years which Dr Qasim completed on May, 31, 2012 but still he is being held illegally,” he said.

The veteran Hurriyet leader said that Dr Qasim’s continued detention was result of political decision and the authorities yet to come clean over it despite keeping him under illegal detention.

Meanwhile, the veteran Hurriyet leader also expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of noted scholar, Professor Manzoor Fazili.
