Gen Raheel Sharif’s statement on Kashmir hailed

London, June 05, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Chief Patron of Kashmir Concern, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami and Muslim Deeni Mahaz have welcomed the statement of Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel Sharif in which he has categorically said that Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl in a statement issued in London said that the people of Kashmir wanted a peaceful resolution of the dispute for establishment of permanent peace in the region. He urged the international community to come forward and translate the desire of peace and honourable coexistence into reality. Kashmiris are grateful to Pakistan government and its people for their continued moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmir cause, he added.

The spokesman of Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami in a statement in Srinagar, welcoming the assertion of General Raheel Sharif, described it timely and according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people. He said that the Pakistan Army Chief had rightly said that Kashmir was an unfinished agenda of partition, adding that the dispute over Kashmir was still pending with the United Nations. He said that it was India which had taken the dispute to the UN and the then Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, had promised to the Kashmiris of granting them their right to self-determination.

The spokesman reiterated the Kashmiris’ resolve to continue the ongoing liberation movement till taking it to its logical conclusion. Meanwhile, the spokesman of Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM) in a statement issued in Srinagar also welcomed the remarks of General Raheel Sharif that Kashmir dispute was an unfinished agenda of the partition of Indian subcontinent.

He took strong exception to the statement of former puppet Chief Minister of the territory, Omar Abdullah, that Pakistan was not allowing plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir. “It seems that Omar Abdullah is unaware of the history of Kashmir and Kashmiris’ sentiments and aspirations,” he added. Hurriyet leader, Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoob, in his statement issued in Islamabad also hailed the avowal of General Raheel Sharif, describing it as encouraging for the Kashmiri people engaged in a peaceful struggle to secure their right to self-determination.
