Free iftari and sehri facility provided to about 150,000 persons across Punjab

Lahore, July 30 2013 (PPI-OT): On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, today free iftari and sehri facility was provided to as many as 147671 persons including 135672 men and 11999 women, at 1321 dastarkhans, set up all over the province.

This was disclosed by Provincial Minister for Zakat and Usher Malik Nadeem Kamran while presiding over a meeting regarding monitoring of Ramazan Bazars which was attended by officers of various departments including Food, Agriculture, Industries, Market and district administration.

The meeting was informed that 150785 bags of 10 kg flour were provided in Ramazan Bazaars out of which 99191 bags were sold. Similarly Price Control Magistrates conducted raids in the markets and bazaars in their respective areas and arrested 55 shopkeepers for overcharging.

They got registered cases against the shopkeepers in the concerned police stations and received a fine of Rs.1297300 from the profiteers. The meeting was further informed that potatoes were sold for Rs.17/kg, onion for Rs.32/kg, ladyfinger for Rs.39/kg, gram pulse for Rs.59/kg, basin for Rs.58/kg in the Ramzaan Bazaars.

The Minister said that Punjab government has announced special Ramzaan Package for the provision of edible items at cheaper rates to the people during Ramzan ul Mubarak. He directed the officers to supply fruits and vegetables in more quantity in the Ramzan Bazaars.
