Four fish hatcheries being established in Multan

Punjab Fisheries Department is establishing four fish hatcheries in Multan division with an objective to promote protein rich food in the region.

In a media interview in Lahore, Assistant Director Fisheries Department Ibrar Gujjar said that the new fish hatcheries are being set up, two in Khanewal and one each in Lodhran and Vehari.

He said that Southern Punjab is rich in production of fish and that about 80 percent of the Fish is produced in Multan, Khanewal and Muzaffargarh.

Ibrar Gujjar said that per person consumption of fish in Pakistan is very low as an average of two kilo gramme fish is consumed by every Pakistani in a year, however, at international level, this ratio is nearly 25 kilo gram per year.
