Forthcoming Punjab budget to revolutionise agriculture sector: Mian Zahid Hussain

Islamabad, June 10, 2015 (PPI-OT): President Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF) and former provincial minister Mian Zahid Hussain on Wednesday said Punjab budget of 2015-16 will revolutionise agriculture sector. The decision will also improve per acre yield of major crops and improve standard of living of farmers, he said.

The allocation in the budget will be jacked up while some 700 people would be appointed as filed staff to serve the agriculture sector. Already employed staff would be trained and a number of training centres would be established for farmers, he said.

Mian Zahid Hussain said that four million samples would be collected from different areas of the province to be analysed to improve per acre yield. Government also aims to replace old seeds with the latest ones while the outdated irrigation system would be improved.

Farmers would get 50 percent subsidy for improvement of waterways and a number of small hydro projects would be initiated. Government would also pump additional money is research while barani area of Pothohar would be used to boost production of grapes and olive.
