Flood Relief Committee Members and Chairman National Disaster Management Authority meets Chief Minister Sindh

Islamabad: Members of Prime Minister’s Parliamentary Flood Relief Committee, Nayyar Bokhari, Nazar Muhammad Gondal and Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Dr. Zafar Qadir called on Syed Qaim Ali Shah the Chief Minister Sindh, Director General PDMA; Sindh was also present on the occasion.

The Chairman NDMA, Dr. Zafar Qadir briefed the meeting about the prevailing flood situation in Sindh. He apprised the participants that so far 70,000 mosquito nets have been provided to government of Sindh.

The Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah appreciated the efforts of NDMA in providing relief to the affectees in Sindh. He said that Sanghar was the worst affected district and in this context the relief efforts should be focused on this area.

Member National Assembly, Nazar Muhammad Gondal observed that the response of international community is relatively slow which could hamper humanitarian initiatives of the government of Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, DG, PDMA, Sindh, suggested that the international aid should be directly delivered to the government to ensure complete visibility in distribution.

The Provincial Secretary Finance requested Flood Relief Committee to liaison with the Federal government to ensure availability of funds to facilitate smooth provisioning of Pakistan Card to the flood affected population.

The Irrigation department officials informed the session that the flood water is expected to recede in the next 25 to 40 days. On this occasion, officials of the Agriculture department said that Sindh government will provide wheat seeds to the farmers and Sunflower seeds will be provided to the farmers of those areas where water will recede late.
