Federal Minister for Housing and Works Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat chaired marathon meetings in last few days
Islamabad: In a bid to beat the challenge of shortfall of millions of units of houses in the country and address much-awaited revamp of ministry’s attached departments including Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA), Pak-Public Works Department (Pak-PWD), National Construction Limited (NCL) and Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF), Federal Minister for Housing and Works Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat chaired marathon meetings in last few days to put ministry’s subsidiaries on right track which, for years, had been adopting time-pass approach.
To materialize Prime Minister’s Scheme of Construction of One Million Houses, the federal minister at the one hand directed PHA high-ups to get Kurri Road Housing Project completed without any delay and on the other, Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat directed FGEHF to complete development of much-awaited G-14 sector to address chronic shortage of housing units for federal government employees in the capital. In all meetings, the Federal Minister reiterated his stance that he would not tolerate corruption in any form in his ministry and its attached departments.
Chairing a meeting on the designs and architectural planning of PHA’s Kurri Road Housing Project, federal minister Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat said that Kurri Road Housing Project should be a landmark in the residential arena of Islamabad.
It is pertinent to mention that the Housing Ministry is on its way to materialize the Prime Minister’s Scheme of construction of one million houses for government employees. Kurri road project is being regarded as a huge milestone in this respect. In all meetings, the Federal Minster directed top bosses of subsidiaries of housing ministry to follow PPRA Rules, 2004 and other government guidelines while awarding various contracts of development projects.
The representatives of the designing-consultant of Kurri Road Housing Project explained various aspects of the design lay-out and elevation. The consultant presented various designs of all the three categories of housing scheme.
After due deliberations on various aspects, the authorities approved some designs for further consideration. The Federal Minister directed the consultant that it was essential to keep the prices at affordable extent, but yet no compromise would be made on the quality of houses.
In another meeting on restructuring of Pak-PWD, Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat directed officials that the government land must be fully protected from the land mafia. The Federal Minister directed Pak-PWD that the department must chalk out various workable strategies to safeguard government properties while bringing it to the proper use in the best public interest.
It is to be mentioned here that on the directions of the federal minister, the ministry has so far got precious government land evacuated from illegal occupants in Karachi and other parts of the country in last four months.
Separately, chairing another meeting, Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat directed FGEHF to facilitate the government servants with affordable accommodation. The FGEHF apprised the Federal Minister of their ongoing projects including 14-storey residential building in sector G-13 and the much awaited development of G-14 sector. The FGEHF termed the former as a state-of-the-art housing facility at affordable rates for the government employees under the flag of the Prime Minister Housing Scheme for All.
The department also discussed the latest position of sector G-14 and G-15/3. They were of the view that development work will be undertaken in near future, as the consultant for design and detailed supervision of infrastructure development work of the sector had already been finalized.
Moreover, various options were also discussed for the disposal of available commercial land in sector G 13 and G-14. The Federal Minister appreciated the role of FGEHF and emphasized to adopt a thorough corporate style and professionalism to efficiently streamline their ongoing projects.
Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat vowed to make NCL at par with multinational giant construction companies. He urged NCL to achieve the high status and good repute. The Minister showed special interest in the up-gradation of the organization.
He urged them to develop corporate-style working environment while fully concentrating on capacity building. He added that there were no reasons at all that NCL could make abreast with other giant multinational construction companies.
The Federal Minister strongly desired that NCL, at present, must compete to grab as many as conveniently possible construction projects, not only at the national but also at international level. The Managing Director, NCL apprised the Housing Minister of challenges and growth prospects of NCL.
Federal Minister ensured NCL of every possible help and facilitation to make NCL cope with the challenging market of construction sector.
