Federal Minister Announces Road Infrastructure Upgrades to Boost Tourism in Northern Pakistan

Islamabad, Federal Minister of Communications, Privatization and Investment Board Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized the importance of enhancing road infrastructure to boost tourism in the northern regions of Pakistan, including Gilgit and Skardu. He highlighted special focus on the Karakoram Highway and its connecting roads and motorways, stating that these improvements will facilitate increased tourism and economic benefits for local residents.

According to Press Information Department, during a meeting in Gilgit with Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan and other high-ranking officials, Minister Khan detailed plans for significant infrastructure developments. These include upgrading the Karakoram Highway, Jaglot, Skardu Road, and constructing new tunnels. The meeting also addressed the future construction of a motorway from Mansehra to Gilgit-Baltistan and the resolution of existing issues such as police deployment and road maintenance.

The discussions took place against the backdrop of a high-level meeting with authorities from the Frontier Works Organization and the National Highway Authority, where Minister Khan was briefed on the current infrastructure challenges and progress. He directed that no effort should be spared to expedite the construction and improvement of travel facilities, promising continued personal oversight to ensure the quality and speed of the work.

The visit by the Federal Minister was described by Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan as a blessing for the region, poised to enhance connectivity and support the booming tourist sector in northern Pakistan.
