Feasibility studies developed by Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority for Prime Minister’s Small Business Loan Scheme receiving overwhelming response from young entrepreneurs

Lahore, October 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): The fresh pre-feasibility studies developed by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) for Prime Minister’s Small Business Loan Scheme are receiving overwhelming response from the young entrepreneurs. According to SMEDA sources, a sum of 30,749 downloads have been recorded on SMEDA web-portal www.smeda.org.pk during last five days from across the country; out of which 5550 downloads are from Lahore, 2532 from Faisalabad, 1401 from Karachi, 1837 from Multan, 2851 from Rawalpindi, 853 from Islamabad, 654 from Gujranwala, 616 from Okara, 512 from Sargodha, 452 from Kasur, 332 from Peshawar and 13159 downloads from other cities. The downloads recorded under the head of others also include the downloads attempted by the overseas Pakistanis and foreign investors.

This is to note that SMEDA’s 50 fresh pre-feasibility studies covering about 15 sectors of small and medium enterprises have especially been developed for PM’s Small Business Loan Scheme.

The sectors covered in this regard are Agri-Processing, Chemical, Construction, Dairy and Livestock, Energy, Fisheries, Food, Furniture, Gems and Jewellery, Horticulture, Leather, Marble, Mineral, Services and Textile.

Meanwhile, SMEDA has clarified that the PM Small Business Loan Scheme is not confined to SMEDA developed business plans. The prospective applicants can apply for the loan under this schema basing their business plan upon any of the viable small business.

However, the loans would be processed and issued by National Bank of Pakistan and the First Women Bank at initial stage. SMEDA is not involved in disbursement of loans.SMEDA has developed the pre-feasibility studies for benefit and facilitation of the potential young entrepreneurs, the spokesman said.
