FBR Launches Major Crackdown on Illicit Tobacco Across Pakistan


Karachi, Following directives from Chairman FBR, Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana, and under the supervision of Member Inland Revenue (Operations) Mr. Mir Badshah Khan Wazir, FBR’s Inland Revenue Field Formations have executed a widespread crackdown on the sale of counterfeit and non-stamped cigarettes across the nation, resulting in significant seizures.



According to Federal Board of Revenue, the operation involved 204 teams with a total of 1,047 personnel, who inspected 4,652 retail outlets. They seized 1,235 packerites of cigarettes valued at approximately Rs. 96 million. 33 outlets were sealed for engaging in illicit tobacco trade.



The Chairman and Member Inland Revenue commended the teams for their effective action despite limited resources and logistical challenges. They emphasized the ongoing commitment to combatting the illicit tobacco market, noting that severe penalties, including potential arrests, are planned for repeat offenders in the next phase of enforcement.
