European Union stands by side of Pakistan and shares its grief after horrific attack against a school in Peshawar

Islamabad, December 24, 2014 (PPI-OT): The European Union Delegation issues the following statement in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission in Pakistan: The EU stands by the side of Pakistan and shares its grief after the horrific attack against a school in Peshawar.

The EU Delegation also welcomes the resolve of the Pakistani people to deal with the scourge of terrorism and violent extremism in all of its manifestations. However, we believe that the death penalty is not an effective tool in the fight against terrorism.

The EU Delegation regrets the decision of the Government of Pakistan to lift the moratorium on executions, which had been in place since 2008. The EU remains opposed to the death penalty in all circumstances. We hope that the moratorium will be re-established at the earliest.
