European Union Election Observer delegation calls on Chief Minister Sindh

Karachi, July 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): A six member delegation of European Union Election Observer headed by Mr. Michael Ghaler called on the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah here at Chief Minister House, and presented him the Observational Report regarding holding of the General Elections 2013.

Mr. Michael Ghaler told the Chief Minister Sindh that they had 26 teams comprising of 46 people who worked the observation of General Elections 2013. Besides they had many diplomats and Parliament members from European Countries who put their views regarding what they observed during the last elections in the country.

He said that the overall situations during elections were significantly improved as compared to that of 2008. The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah thanked the EU delegation upon their observation and presenting their report.

He said that Chief Election Commissioner was appointed by a consensus between Leader of the House and Leader of the Opposition, and everybody knew that Election Commission worked independently.

He further told that the General Elections were held under the auspices of the Caretaker Government that was too headed by a retired Judge of High Court who took his cabinet on his own. The Chief Minister Sindh told the delegation that this was the first ever event in the overall history of the country that the democratically elected government was put through a smooth transition.

He said that in spite of all the concerns of the ‘irregularities’ as observed by you, all the political parties accepted the Elections and welcomed the positive attitude for the continuance of democracy. Chief Minister said that Karachi is a city of over 20 million people and that too with heterogeneous nature, and despite law and order situation, people love to stay in Karachi. He said with limited resources govt of Sindh was striving hard for better policing, development and infrastructure.

It also depends upon the share we receive from the federal government; we will then have better ways to implement all our policies he added. At the end members of delegation were decorated with the traditional gifts of Ajrak and Sindh Topi by the Chief Minister.
