European Union awards Higher Education Scholarships to Pakistani students

Islamabad, June 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): Every year the European Union provides opportunities for students worldwide aspiring to go to European Institutions for higher education through an EU programme known as Erasmus Mundus.

The EU Delegation to Pakistan congratulates the 45 students from Pakistan (42 for Masters and 3 for PhD) selected for the 2013 Erasmus Mundus scholarships to study at different universities across the European Union, making Pakistan one of the largest recipients of this year’s Erasmus Mundus scholarships.

Erasmus Mundus is a European Union education programme which aims to enhance the quality of European higher education and promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation between countries. Erasmus Mundus also contributes to the development of human resources and international cooperation capacity of higher education institutions in third-countries, by increasing mobility between the European Union and these countries.

The Erasmus Mundus programme provides support to:

• Higher education institutions that wish to implement joint programmes at postgraduate level (Action 1) or to set-up inter-institutional cooperation partnerships between universities from Europe and targeted Third-Countries (Action 2)

• Individual students, researchers and university staff who wish to spend study / research / teaching period in the context of one of the above mentioned joint programmes or cooperation partnerships (Action 1 and Action 2)

• Any organisation active in the field of higher education that wishes to develop projects aimed at enhancing the attractiveness, profile, visibility and image of European higher education worldwide (Action 3).

During the last couple of years Pakistan has received 418 Erasmus Masters’ scholarships which include 32 PhD scholarships along with 9 undergraduate and 5 post-doctoral scholarships.
