Elected representatives call on Punjab Chief Minister

Lahore, July 30 2013 (PPI-OT): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that people have given a historic mandate to Muslim League-N in the recent general elections. He said that nothing can be more important for the government than welfare of the masses and all out resources are being utilized for this purpose.

He said that every hurdle can be surmounted with courage and determination and no effort will be spared to steer the country out of crises and put it on the road to progress and prosperity. He said that measures are being taken on war footing to resolve energy crisis.

He said that work has been started expeditiously with the cooperation of China on the projects of low-cost power generation through alternative resources and the problem of load-shedding will be resolved for coming up to the expectations of the masses.

He expressed these views while talking to assembly members belonging to various districts here today. Those who met the Chief Minister included Junaid Anwar, Syed Waseem Akhtar, Rai Mansab Ali Khan, Chaudhary Shamshad Ali Khan, Sheikah Alla-ud-Din and Kanwal Nuaman. Talking to the elected representatives, the Chief Minister said that besides gap in the demand and supply of electricity, theft of gas and power is also a serious issue.

He said that some influential persons are involved in electricity theft but they will be made an example as they are committing a crime against the nation. He said that on the instructions of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the elements involved in the theft of electricity and gas are being dealt with sternly and a crackdown has been launched on gas and electricity thieves in Punjab.

He said that no leniency will be shown to such black sheep. He said that clear instructions have been issued to administrative machinery to disregard every pressure in the action against gas and power thieves.

The Chief Minister said that those who are causing a loss of billions of rupees to the country in the existing energy crisis deserve no sympathy and that is why the big fish involved in the pilferage of gas and power are being brought to justice. He said that in addition to factory owners involved in this crime, action is also being taken against corrupt government officers. He said that assembly members should play a leading role in the drive against electricity and gas thieves.

The Chief Minister further said that essential items as well as fruits and vegetables are being provided to the masses at a concessionary rate at 350 Ramazan bazaars set up in the province under Ramazan package and instructions have been issued to district and divisional administrative officers to ensure supply of quality food items to the masses at the fixed rates in Ramazan bazaars. Shahbaz Sharif also directed assembly members to visit Ramazan bazaars in their respective areas to supervise the steps taken for the provision of essential commodities to the masses at cheaper rate.

He said that Ramazan is a sacred month and provision of maximum facilities to the fasting people is the best form of worship. Referring to South Punjab the Chief Minister said that a sum of 93 billion rupees has been allocated in the current budget for various development projects in this region. Similarly, he said, PML-N government has allocated more funds than the ratio of population of South Punjab for the development of this area.

He said that missing facilities will be provided in all schools of South Punjab during the current year. He said that the priorities announced in the budget of the new fiscal year reflect the manifesto of PML-N and the vision of Punjab government.

The Chief Minister directed assembly members to maintain a close contact with the people for resolving their problems on priority basis. He said that the confidence reposed by the masses in PML-N leadership demands that the elected representatives should spare no effort in the service of the people.

He said that Allah Almighty has given an opportunity of public service to present leadership and elected representatives should try their best in this regard for success in this world and the world hereafter. Assembly members informed the Chief Minister about development schemes and public welfare projects in their respective areas.
