Director General European Centre for Nuclear Research meets the Prime Minister
Islamabad: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said that forums like the International Nathia Gali Summer College (INSC) serve to break the intellectual isolation of scientists in the developing countries. Such interactions among scientists of both advanced and developing countries, he added, would lead to enhance South-South cooperation and North-South understanding.
The Prime Minister was talking to Dr. Rolf Heuer, Director General of CERN (European Centre for Nuclear Research) who met him on the side-lines of 36th International Nathia Gali Summer College after the inaugural ceremony here at the National Centre for Physics this afternoon.
The Prime Minister said that prestigious institutions like CERN could greatly contribute towards steering the direction of developing countries in the field of science and technology. Pakistan, he mentioned, needs support from CERN to develop its technology and application of technology in various sectors to achieve socio-economic progress.
Dr. Rolf Heuer assured the Prime Minister that CERN would extend every possible assistance to Pakistan in developing its scientific institutions and training of scientists. He also invited the Prime Minister to visit the CERN Headquarters in Geneva to see for himself the contribution of CERN for the development of science and technology as well as sharing of research knowledge with various countries.
