Islamabad: Pakistan has reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path forward amid the prevailing tensions and hostilities in the Middle East. At his weekly news briefing in Islamabad today, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi emphasized Pakistan's commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region.
According to Radio Pakistan, Andrabi stated that Pakistan welcomes all efforts aimed at sustaining the cessation of hostilities and resumption of dialogue between Iran and the United States. He affirmed that Pakistan is actively engaged and will continue to play its role in facilitating these discussions. Negotiations are ongoing with the aim of normalizing the situation.
The spokesperson highlighted Pakistan's dedication to bringing the parties back to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), ensuring that all issues can be addressed within the framework of the MOU and the Pakistan-Qatar Joint Statement issued on June 22nd. Andrabi underscored the importance of exercising maximum restraint and adhering to commitments to resume technical-level talks for the MOU's implementation.
Addressing other concerns, Andrabi dismissed DW's documentary on Pakistan's nuclear security program as misleading and speculative, criticizing it for biased sourcing. He asserted that the documentary either misinterprets or disregards the history and rationale of Pakistan's nuclear program. Pakistan maintains full confidence in the robustness of its nuclear command and control architecture, which meets the highest international standards and is recognized by independent experts.
When questioned about the Indian government's decision to block access to social media accounts of Pakistan TV Digital and others, Andrabi condemned it as part of a pattern of suppressing information. He urged the international community and media organizations to acknowledge and address the Indian government's media restrictions.
