Condolences offered at Pakistan Embassy in China for victims of Peshawar attack

Beijing, December 19, 2014 (PPI-OT): In an expression of solidarity with the families of the victims of Peshawar tragedy, the Pakistani and diplomatic community in China has extended its deepest sympathies and sorrow over the tragic loss of innocent lives in the attack.

While the embassy observed mourning, lowering the national flag to half-mast, condolence messages poured in from Chinese nationals as well as from foreign diplomats stationed in Beijing, who recorded their impressions in the condolence book, expressing profound shock and extending deep sympathies to the bereaved families.

President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang sent condolence messages to the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan. Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jianchao signed the condolence book on behalf of the Chinese government. PLA and Ministry of Defence were represented by Deputy Chief of General Staff Lt Gen. Wang. Senior officials of Ministry of Public Security also visited the Embassy to express condolences.

On this occasion, Ambassador Masood Khalid expressed his deep sorrow and grief saying that his heart and thoughts go out to the families of the innocent martyrs. He said those who had committed the cowardly and callous act by targeting innocent children were enemies not only of Pakistan but also of the entire humanity. He expressed his gratitude to the Chinese leadership and the Chinese people for their resolute support and expression of solidarity in this hour of grief.

Earlier on Wednesday, funeral prayers in absentia (Ghaibana namaz-e-janaza) and Qur’aan Khawani (reading of the Holy Qur’an) were held at the Embassy. A candle light vigil was also held at the Embassy participated by a large number of members of Pakistani community, Embassy staff and their children, teachers and students of Pakistan Embassy College and Chinese citizens.
