Cleric’s family attacked, two children dead

Srinagar, July 24 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, tension gripped at Bemina in Srinagar in the wee hours, today, following a murderous assault by unidentified assailants on the family of a local cleric, which left his two minor children dead.

The assailants barged into the house of Iftikhar Ahmad at Iqbalabad in Bemina while he was away in the local mosque to lead the pre-dawn prayers.. The assailants slit open the throat of Iftikhar’s wife, Naseema, and two children with a sharp-edged weapon, the local police said.

The trio, lying in a pool of blood were rushed to hospital when the cleric returned home from the mosque, they said. While the children — Mohammad Hashim (two years) and Aalia (three years) were declared dead on arrival, Naseema was battling for life, police said.

On the other hand, curfew has been imposed in Budgam district following incidents of arson by anti-movement and anti-Kashmir elements in the district.

“Curfew has been imposed in some parts of Budgam district due to the violence including arson yesterday,” the police officials said.

At least a dozen houses were set on fire, resulting in extensive damage to the structures.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik led a house-to-house march in different areas of Badgam to appeal people to keep unity among themselves and beware of anti-Muslim and anti-movement elements.
