Chinese journalists visit Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry to ascertain vision of Zakaria Usman on economic, trade, investment and people to people cooperation between China and Pakistan and other countries

Karachi, December 09, 2014 (PPI-OT): A team of journalists from Guangzhou Daily Group of China visited FPCCI to meet the President Zakaria Usman to ascertain the vision of the President FPCCI on economic, trade, investment, culture and people to people cooperation particularly between China and Pakistan and other countries falling on the route of China Silk Road.

Zakaria Usman explained the role of FPCCI as a national Chamber including provision of bridge between private and public sector and other government agencies, research and development, corporate social responsibilities (CSR), holding exhibitions to project the Pakistani products abroad and exchange of trade delegations to enhance bilateral economic and trade activities with other countries and to strengthen and establishing people to people contacts.

Usman further said that friendship of Pakistan and China has been molded into a comprehensive strategic partnership in trade and investment and economic development. The Pak China Economic corridor will be another milestone which reflects strengthens trade and investment ties between both the countries. The huge Chinese investment in Pakistan particularly in energy sector and infrastructure will bring an economic revolution in the region.

This will not only benefit Pakistan but also equally beneficial for China as well in terms of cheapest labour and raw material which would provide them opportunity to establish industries in Pakistan and export their products to Central Asian countries through Gawadar Port.

Answering to a question about the benefits to Pakistani people from Chinese project in Pakistan he said that the construction of highways in remote areas would bring revolution in the rural areas of Pakistan, people would get employment, the agri-products will be easily accessible in the nearest market, trade and economic activities will be increased alongside the Pak China Economic Corridor highway.

While talking about FTA between Pakistan and China Zakaria Usman emphasized on the implementation of second phase of FTA and he opined that necessary measures are being taken to enhance Pakistan’s export to China. He said that Pakistani fruits can capture significant share of Chinese market particularly mangoes, dates, kinnos etc. but the main hurdle is quarantine formalities imposed by China on Pakistani fruits.

He also emphasized on the strengthened banking channel between both the countries and said that in some cities of China banking channels are very weak. The Pakistan importers always feel trouble in making payments to Chinese exporters.

Zakaria Usman further said that China and Pakistan both have eastern culture which is a great similarity and Chinese people love tourism whereas Pakistan can be a hub of tourism. There are many historical points in all four provinces of Pakistan.

The Himalayan mountain series in Pakistan is eye catching particularly K2 Mountain. While giving response to the matter of security he said that law and order is now not such a big issue but in fact it is a negative perception of Pakistan due to media hype.
