Chief Secretary asked to save record of hepatitis medicine purchase

Karachi, June 28, 2015 (PPI-OT):A division bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the Chief Secretary Sindh to preserve the record of procurement of hepatitis B and C medicines for the year 2014-15 to thwart any attempt to temper or destroy the record.

According to the details, Government of Sindh had floated a tender for the procurement of Hepatitis B and C medicine for the year 2014-15 on Nov 28, 2014 and later it was granted to two multinational pharmaceutical companies which was challenged by the local companies in the court.

The SHC on March 26, 2015 scrapped the tender terming it non-transparent, illegal and unconstitutional. Despite the court orders, the Sindh Government failed to initiate any action against the officials involved in the scam which prompted a local Pharma company to move SHC for action against the officials through NAB.

During hearing, ADPG NAB M. Altaf, AAG M. Rafiq Rajouri, and DAG Ainuddin Khan representing provincial government and NAB sought time to file comments therefore the case was adjourned till July15 for further proceedings.
