Chief of Defence Force Maldives calls on Secretary Defence

Islamabad, March 10, 2014 (PPI-OT): Chief of Defence Force Maldives Major General Ahmed Shiyam called on Secretary Defence Lt Gen(retd) Asif Yasin Malik here at the Ministry of Defence on 10-03-14.

Maldives being a country in South Asia holds significance for Pakistan. Being an member of SAARC and OIC Pakistan will keep supporting Maldives for maintaining its national integrity and sovereignty. Chief of Maldivian Army said, “Pakistan believes in peaceful coexistence in the region and Maldives respects Pakistan for its uprighteousness.”

He added that Pakistan had always been supportive of cordial relations between the two countries and expressed hope that the relationship between the two countries would further deepen. On the occasion Secretary Defence Lt Gen ® Asif Yasin Malik added that Pakistan respects sovereignty and integrity of each nation and Pakistan will continue to support Maldives on regional and international forums.

He added that the relationship in the field of defence needs to be broadened and we may look towards expanding relationship in military training, joint military exercises and defence production. The areas in defence production emphasized during the meeting were small arms, ammunition, aircrafts like JF-17, Super Mashak and K8, Security Vehicles and Bullet Proof Jackets.

Chief of the Defence Force Maldives showed keen interest in the area of training and said that Pakistan has some of the best Armed Forces Training Institutes in the world. Secretary Defence honored the dignitary by hosting a dinner at the JSHQ Mess and expressed hope that ties between Pakistan and Maldives would grow further.
