Chief Justice of Pakistan takes Suo Motu notice on press clipping of Daily Dawn dated 11.05.2016, containing story captioned Ombudsperson issues warrant for judge a day after apology

Islamabad, May 12, 2016 (PPI-OT):The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali took Suo Motu notice under Article 184(3) of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan on press clipping of “Daily Dawn” dated 11.05.2016, containing the story captioned as “Ombudsperson issues warrant for judge a day after apology”. According to the news report the Federal Ombudsperson for protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace Ms. Yasmin Abbasi had issued a warrant for the arrest of senior puisne judge of the Lahore High Court Mr. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah one day after she tendered an unconditional apology to the judge for her ‘contemptuous’ conduct.

Taking notice of the issue, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan has directed the office to fix the case in Court for 17.05.2016 with notices to Federal Ombudsperson for protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace Ms. Yasmin Abbasi for her personal appearance and Attorney General for Pakistan, and has also suspended purported order of Ombudsperson highlighted in the press clipping.
