Certain packaged milk brands declared unfit for consumption

Islamabad, December 09, 2016 (PPI-OT): A report presented before the Supreme Court of Pakistan has revealed shocking details regarding the deplorable quality of water and milk provided by top notch brands. A two-judge bench headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing a petition against sale of substandard milk and drinking water.

The PCSIR (Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) officials submitted a report about examination of samples taken from milk and water companies. According to the report, samples of nine out of 11 packed milk companies were substandard while samples of six mineral water manufacturing companies had been declared substandard.

The report by PCSIR officials stated that milk provided by Haleeb, Gourmet, Doce, Nestle, Acha milk, Shakar Ganj foods, Fuji foods, Alfazal foods was substandard. On the other hand only Olper’s manufactured by Engro Foods was cleared from all the allegations and was termed “Fit for drinking”.

According to the report, the substandard milk contains metal, sugarcane and other hazardous elements while the water sold with the tag ‘mineral water’ was also of poor quality provided by six firms to citizens. PFA director Mr Mengal told the court that action was being taken against the manufacturers of unhygienic milk and water.

To this, the apex court categorically directed PFA to submit reports on water and milk samples within a month in order to assist court finding the true cause behind the nefariousness. Justice Nisar observed that the court would not allow anyone to play havoc with the lives of citizens.
