Capacity Building NFIS felicitates FM Ishaq Dar for award on behalf of MSME sector

Karachi, October 10, 2016 (PPI-OT): Chairman of the working group for capacity building in the technical committee of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) congratulated Minister for Finance senator Ishaq Dar on getting the ‘Finance Minister of the year 2016 for South Asia’ award.

Zulfikar Thaver conveyed his felicitation message to the Finance Minister and said that his selection as the best finance minister was because of his pragmatic approach and steering of the successful economic and financial policies.

He however hoped that Ishaq Dar who is the chairman of the NFIS in Pakistan, which is a shared leadership of World Bank, Ministry of Finance and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) would continue his efforts, this time with special focus on the micro to medium sized sector and agriculture as these are the majority sector and the engine of growth.

He appreciated the instructions of the Finance Minister (FM) to the steering committee and the technical committee to include all segments of the economy in the financial inclusion strategy within a timeline and make sure the micro and the SMEs have access to finance.

He urged the FM to revive the SME Bank urgently and also establish the Exim Bank before the end of the year. There is urgent need for facilitating exports to Iran as the commercial banks are awaiting instructions from the SBP and reciprocal approval from central bank of Iran.

Thaver also appealed to him to review the non filers issue with a friendly policy and also to reconsider the capital gains tax and evaluation of property as the housing industry has received a setback. The housing industry encompasses 36 different industries and the country needs to promote the housing industry.

Thaver on behalf of himself and the MSME sector thanked the Emerging Markets, the newspaper of the IMF/World Bank Annual Meeting which awarded FM Ishaq Dar as `Finance Minister of the year 2016 for South Asia and said the country is proud of its FM who is working hard with dedication.
