Call for probe into illegal issuance of license to Small Traders Chamber

Islamabad, November 29, 2013 (PPI-OT): The representatives of different markets during a meeting held under the chair of Ajmal Baloch, Central Organizing Secretary, Traders Action Committee, Islamabad passed a unanimous resolution appealing to the Regulator of Trade Organizations to conduct a thorough inquiry into the illegal issuance of license to Islamabad Small Traders Chambers (ISTC).

They further demanded that the license should be cancelled forthwith and all applicants who had applied for license should be given an opportunity of hearing to fulfill the principles of justice. They passed another resolution appealing to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the removal of Director Municipal Administration, CDA.

Ajmal Baloch said that three parties had applied for obtaining the license of Islamabad Small Traders Chamber, but without fulfilling the required formalities and under the influence of a high official of the previous government, license was issued illegally to the representatives of a political party creating great frustration in the business community. He said government should give a serious consideration to this important issue to remove the concerns of businessmen.

He further said that Hamza Shafqaat, Director, Municipal Administration of CDA is bent on imposing an illegal tax in the form of parking fee in markets while the citizens and traders of Islamabad have totally rejected it.

He said without the approval of National Assembly, no new tax could be imposed and we will never allow its imposition. He appealed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to rid the traders of DMA’s anti-business and anti-people initiatives by ordering his removal.

Yasir Jamil Abbasi and Sarfraz Mughal, Presidents of Traders Welfare Associations of I-8 Markaz and Super Market respectively said that CDA could not meet its expense despite auctioning plots and now plans to squeeze the traders by taking anti-business measures.

They warned that if the demands of traders were not met by removing the imported CDA officers, they would give a call for complete shutter down in Islamabad and DMA would be responsible for all consequences.

Abdul Hameed Kiani, Ch. Waheed, Raja Safeer, Shafiq Abbasi, Haji Nisar Langa, Aslam Khan, Mian Kalid, Mehboob ul Muqarram, Tahir Abbasi, Ahmad Khan and others also addressed the meeting.
