British Prime Minister Telephones Pakistani Counterpart

Islamabad: British Prime Minister, Mr. David Cameron, telephoned Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani who appreciated his decision of calling off his visit to New York to address the Un General Assembly session in view of the devastation caused by heavy rain in the province of Sindh. The British Prime Minister said that his country was ready to help rain victims.

Pakistani Prime Minister Gilani informed during the telephonic conversation that from tomorrow he was going to tour the flood and rain affected areas of the province to supervise the relief measures carried out by the government and private agencies and also gear up the state machinery to take immediate and effective steps to mitigate the sufferings of the about five million affected people at the earliest.

The Prime Minister regretted that he would be able to meet his counterpart in London due to the cancelling of his visit to New York.

The Prime Minister told the British Prime Minister that he had directed the Foreign Minister to represent Pakistan in the UN Session. On this, the British Prime Minister said, he would meet the Pakistan Foreign Minister in New York besides the meeting of British Foreign Secretary with to his Pakistani counterpart during the General Assembly Session.

On the question of Afghanistan, the British Prime Minister exchanged views with the Pakistani Prime Minister who told him that his country supports the process of reconciliation in the country which is Afghan owned and Afghan led. The Prime Minister said that we want a peaceful, stable, independent and prosperous Afghanistan.

The Pakistan Prime Minister said that his meeting with Afghan President was scheduled in New York that would had provided us good opportunity to discuss the latest Afghan situation in Afghanistan but the grave situation caused by floods and rains at home have made it impossible.

Pakistan Prime Minister said the Ms. Hina Rabani Khar will meet the Afghan President to assure him that Pakistan would extend support for the solution of the problem in accordance with the aspiration of the people which is instrumental to the stability of the region.
