At least four people, including three Chinese nationals, were killed and two others injured as a result of a blast in a van at Karachi University on Tuesday.
They were identified as Confucius Institute Director, Huang Guiping, and teachers, Ding Mupeng and Chen Sai. The driver of the van, Khalid, also succumbed to injuries.
The initial information showed that the van was headed to the institute after leaving the hostel, the DIG said.
“The explosion took place at the van’s right side at the institute’s entrance,” he said, adding that CCTV footage is being analyzed and the nature of the blast would only be ascertained after the bomb disposal squad submitted its report.
Contingents of police and medics arrived at the scene. The injured Wang Yuqing and Hamid have been shifted to a nearby hospital.
