Ambassador of Japan meets Minister for Defence Production

Rawalpindi, October 29, 2013 (PPI-OT): The newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Hiroshi Inomata called on Federal Minister for Defence Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain here today. The Minister during the meeting stressed that Japan and Pakistan should look into avenues where both countries can venture into civil sector development projects.

The Ambassador inquired about areas where Japan can contribute keeping in view the technical support which could be extended to Pakistan. The Minister said that the 2nd shipyard to be built in Gwadar would cater for the ships undertaking business voyages in the region.

It is going to be a deep sea facility and bring a lot of business to Pakistan, increasing Pakistan’s importance in the region. Since Defence cooperation with Japan is not very extensive, therefore ventures on the civil side where Japan can extend support are of much importance to Pakistan.

The Ambassador termed the proposal very fruitful in enhancing relation between the two countries. The New Shipyard project will uplift shipping industry of Pakistan and will serve as a good harbour for ships trading in the region. It will also act as a gateway to Gulf, the Minister stressed.

The Minister commended the police structure of Japan and said it was a successful model to be followed by the rest of the countries and Pakistan. The Ambassador described Pakistan a country full of skilled workers and said youth of Pakistan were an asset for the country.

After the meeting a delegation of Nigeria and Tajikistan met the Additional Secretary Ministry of Defence Production, Maj Gen Raza Muhammad. Pakistan has a lot to offer to Tajikistan and Tajikistan has shown great interest in acquiring defence equipment which they termed as “best quality and low cost” when compared in international market”.

These deals and other interaction at the government to government level will open a new chapter of our relationship with Central Asia”, the visiting head of Tajik delegation Maj. Gen. Maruf Hasanov said. The meetings ended with the exchange of souvenirs and hope of future collaboration.
