Al-Othaimeen hopes Islamic Summit would take effective measures on what is happening in Palestine

Istanbul, (UNA-OIC) - Secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef A, Al-Othaimeen addressed the meeting of Foreign Ministers preparatory to the 7th Extraordinary Islamic Summit held in the city of Istanbul on Friday to discuss the serious developments in the State of Palestine.

In his speech, Al-Othaimeen affirmed the OIC General Secretariat's support for conducting an independent investigation into the deliberate targeting of unarmed civilians by the Israeli occupation forces and renewed the OIC's support for a resolution by the Human Rights Council in Geneva to establish an international commission of inquiry into Israeli crimes and prosecute and punish those responsible for them. He expressed the hope that the Islamic Summit would come up with effective measures for which the Summit is being held.

The Secretary general offered his sincere condolences to the Palestinian leadership and people over the death of dozens and the wounding of hundreds of Palestinians, praying Allah the Almighty to forgive the martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending their right and the city of Al-Quds, wishing the wounded speedy recovery.

Al-Othaimeen said that Israel, the occupying power, has been deliberately provocative and intensified its barbaric military aggression against unarmed Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding hundreds in cold blood, while celebrating the opening of the US embassy in occupied Al-Quds.

He denounced the absence of accountability, as well as Israel's immunity and impunity, which allowed it to continue its colonization policies, and considered the Security Council's failure to assume its responsibility to deter Israel and put an end to its crimes and its inability to release a communique denouncing the Israeli massacre a shame to this civilized world calling day and night for the promotion of human rights and that, Muslims have started to think that they are excluded from the protection provided by human rights laws.

The Secretary general stated that the international community has to assume the responsibility of protecting the Palestinian people from the tyranny and despotism of the Israeli killing machine, pursuant to the Fourth Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians in wartime.

On the other hand, Al-Othaimeen said that the OIC calls for not tolerating any state that accepts the Israeli claims about the occupied city of Jerusalem, or takes measures that consecrate Israel's occupation of the holy city.

The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu had opened the meeting of Foreign Ministers with a statement in which he welcomed the participants.

For his part, the Foreign Minister of the State of Palestine Riyad Al-Maliki, delivered a statement in which he called for holding Israel accountable and adopting and implementing resolutions reflecting the Muslim Ummah's weight.
