Akram Gill meets Pope Benedict XVI in Italy
Islamabad: Minister of State for National Harmony, Mr. Akram Masih Gill during his visit to Italy (11-18 November 2011) called on His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI and held meeting with Most Reverend Archbishop Dominuque Mamberti Secretary of State for Foreign Relations in Vatican on 17 November 2011.
Minister of State conveyed the good will message of peace, amity and inter faith harmony from the President, Prime Minister and people of Pakistan and particularly Christian community. He also briefed His Holiness on the measures taken by the government for the protection and economic uplift of minorities such as constitutional and legislative protection, abolishment of separate electorate, creation of new Federal Ministry for National Harmony, Minorities day (11th August), reserved quota for employment in the federal services, national commission, cultural awards, special welfare funds and etc.
His Holiness appreciated the steps taken by the government and assured Vatican’s continued support to Pakistan in achieving interfaith harmony and strengthening of education sector. His Holiness also appreciated Pakistan’s resolve against the twin menace of extremism and terrorism.
