AJKSU in Punjab expresses solidarity with Handwara girl

Srinagar, May 09, 2016 (PPI-OT):To express sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved family of the Handwara girl, All Jammu and Kashmir Students Union (AJKSU) organized candlelight protests against the continued detention of Handwara girl in different colleges of Punjab. Apart from dozens of Kashmiri students, the students from other states of India too participated in the vigil, AJKSU expressed deep shock over the spate of continued detention of the girl by police.

Commenting over the detention of innocent girl, the President of AJKSU, Syed Tajammul Imran said need of the hour is to free the girl and remove all the cases in which she has been involved by the police and other agencies and stern action against the culprits should be taken involved in crime.

Since April 12, the minor girl has been in illegal police custody after she complained of molestation by some armed forces personnel. “The Girl was forced to give a false testimony exonerating her molesters, the testimony was circulated over YouTube, revealing her identity to the entire world. Her mother was not allowed to speak to the Press about the issue. She continues to be in illegal detention, without any access to rights groups or child support organization.” Said Mudasir Shafi a senior member of AJKSU.
