Advisor to German Chancellor calls on Minister for Defence

Islamabad, December 05, 2013 (PPI-OT): Dr. Christoph Heusgen, Advisor to German Chancellor, Merkel on Foreign Security and Policy called on Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif here today. Both dignitaries discussed matters related to regional stability, security and peace. Both sides expressed that these are common goals to be achieved.

Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif welcomed the German Advisor and said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Germany and appreciated the positive growth of Pak-German bilateral relations with the hope for further enhancement of relations particularly in the field of defence.

Defence Minister extended felicitations on signing of the MoU on defence cooperation and expressed hope that this will further enhance Military-to-Military relationship between the two countries. German Advisor Dr. Christoph Heusgen acknowledged the sacrifices made by Pakistan Army in its war against terror.

He appreciated the role and stance of Pakistan in maintaining peace in the region. He acknowledged that both Pakistan and Germany are faced with common challenges and close cooperation between Pakistan and Germany will help face these challenges.

Minister for Defence appreciated German contribution for bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan. The Defence Minister also appreciated the act of recent validation of the Bilateral Investment Treaty by German Parliament and called it a significant step in enhancing economic cooperation. The meeting ended on a high note with Minister for Defence appreciating the contribution of the Germany in areas of social development as well.
