Administrator issues directives for increase in pedestrian bridges

Karachi, June 11, 2012 (PPI-OT): Administrator Karachi Muhammad Husssain Syed has directed to increase pedestrian bridges according to requirement on busy roads and intersections to provide convenience to pedestrians in crossing roads.

He also instructed that citizens through awareness campaign should be informed that the use of pedestrian bridge was beneficial for their own safety and it could prevent them from major accidents.

He said this while chairing the meeting of Transport and Communications Department. On this occasion Senior Director Transport and Communication Muhammad Ather and other officers were present. Administrator Karachi urged the need of establishment of public safety system to prevent citizens from accidents on roads.

He said that the flow of traffic was being affected by increase of vehicles the city and illegal encroachment on the roads. Administrator Karachi directed to remove the illegal encroachment and chalk out a comprehensive plan to stop the use of U-Turn from wrong side. He said that broken roads signs and cat eyes on the roads should be restored.

He said all possible measures should be taken to prevent citizens from accidents and in this connection an awareness campaign should be carried out to create awareness among the citizens regarding their safety and traffic rules.

He said the recently established Road Safety Task Force should find the causes of traffic accidents in the city and pinpoint black spots on such locations on which frequent accidents took place in past and also take measures to remove these black spots immediately. Administrator Karachi expressed hopes that launching of Road Safety Task Force would help minimize traffic accidents on city roads.
