18th Session of Pak-Iran Joint Economic Commission held
Islamabad: The 18th Session of Pak-Iran Joint Economic Commission was held at Islamabad on 7-8 September, 2011.The Minister for Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Planning and Development led Pakistan in the above JEC.
The Islamic Republic of Iran was represented by H.E. Dr. Ali Akbar Salehi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Islamic Republic of Iran. The delegation comprising various senior officials arrived in Islamabad on September 6, 2011.
It evaluated the progress of the decisions taken during the 17th session of Pak-Iran JEC held in Tehran in 2008. The main decisions taken include signing the MOU on Economic and Technical Cooperation, MOU on Pak-Iran Investment Company and MOU for cooperation in Electronic Media between Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) and Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.
During the 2 days of discussions held in Islamabad, delegates from both countries presented various proposals to enhance bilateral trade and industrial development, Joint Ventures, lifting of visa and export-import restrictions, promotion of banking, communications, information technology, media development, industrial and agricultural development, Import of gas and electricity to Pakistan and cooperation in other areas of mutual interest like education, health, culture, tourism etc.
H.E. Dr. Ali Akbar Salehi, the leader of the Iranian delegation also made important official calls upon Pakistani leadership and discussed matters of mutual interest and regional importance.
