17th October Round Table Conference to table high impact measures

Karachi, October 16, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) reminded Danish Khan special assistant to Professor Ahsan Iqbal federal minister planning and reforms of his promise to table the high impact measures suggested by UNISAME at the Round Table Conference (RTC) today at the planning ministry secretariat Islamabad.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said the high impact recommendations for setting up SME Gallery, SME Insurance, SME specific bank, SME Leasing, SME Liaison Committee and SME Technical Institute are the need of the hour and need to be implemented without loss of time.

Explaining the importance he elaborated that each of these proposed institutions would facilitate the entrepreneurs with marketing support, comfort, finance and technical education for modernization. This will reflect on the economy positively and exports will increase substantially. The other important requirements are for SME ombudsman, chamber of commerce and trade intelligence bureau which would support, facilitate, protect and educate the sector.

In addition to the above the Small Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) needs to be strengthened and funded and also given the task to carry out a survey to determine the strength, size and location of the SMEs industry wise. The entrepreneurs need conducive environment with ease and reduction of cost of doing business he emphasized.

Thaver urged for SME friendly policies of taxation and allotment of land and loans with easy repayments under pay as you earn schemes and hope the experts at the RTC will strongly recommend for inclusion in the proposal to the finance ministry. Thaver urged for priority for the SME sector, the farmers and the housing industry.

The RTC needs to invite the Chinese venture capitalist to enter into joint ventures in Pakistan for light engineering goods. Thaver said Prof Ahsan Iqbal is well aware and convinced of the potentiality of the sector and needs to convince the finance ministry to fund the SME promotion and development on scientific lines like the progressive countries of the world.
