12-year-old martyred Junaid laid to rest

Srinagar, October 08, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, twelve-year-old martyred school boy, Junaid Ahmad, was laid to rest in Martyrs’ Graveyard, today.

Little Junaid was hit by pellets in his native area of Saidapora in Srinagar, yesterday. He was critically injured, collapsed and was rushed to Soura Institute of Medical Sciences where doctors admitted him to Intensive Cure Unit (ICU) after operating upon him. He succumbed to his injuries, today morning. He was lone son of his parents among four children. The dead body of martyred Junaid was brought to his home at around 6:00am and was taken to the Martyrs’ Graveyard a little later but hundreds of Indian troops and police personnel in riot gear and holding assault rifles, teargas and pellet guns in hands stopped the funeral from proceeding towards the venue for final rites.

The mourners shouted pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. However, forces’ personnel showered teargas shells on the funeral procession near Aali Masjid on Eidgah-Soura road, few hundred metres away from the Martyrs’ Graveyard. The body was laid down on the road as mourners were pushed back due to intense teargas shelling, reporters and eyewitness to the events, said.

The funeral procession retreated to home of slain Junaid. After some time, the funeral took an alternative road via Wangun Pora and reached the Eidgah to bid adieu to the martyred minor. He was lowered in his grave around 9:30am amid wails, tears and pro-freedom slogans.
