PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – Interactive Session on National Qualification Framework at Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry
Islamabad, June 04, 2012 (PPI-OT): A full day interactive session was conducted by GIZ with the collaboration of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry(FPCCI) and NAVTTC at Federation House Karachi on 2nd June ,2012. Working Groups formed during the session learnt about Technical and Vocational Education and Training TVET reform.The groups also discussed some proposals appropriate for NQF in Pakistan.
The interactive meeting started with the recitation of verses from Holy Quran. Syed Masood Alam Rizvi, Secretary General, FPCCI in his welcome remarks highlighted the role of FPCCI in Developing National Qualification Framework (NQF) along with NAVTTC.
He said FPCCI through its Standing Committees is actively participating in technical and vocational education curriculum development. FPCCI with the consultation of its affiliated Chambers and Associations prepares recommendations for skills development and type of the labour force required by the present industry of the country.He also briefed on the core functions of the FPCCI.
Mr. Jermy Curtis, Expert-NQF, GIZ, TVET Reform Support Programme, gave a detailed presentation on the NQF programme for Pakistan its objectives, role and the benefits for emplyees, employers and Pakistan as a nation. He also briefed the participants on NQF development, , curriculum development, and competency standard development. He also told that through NQF development Pakistan’s economic growth will be enhanced. He futher elaborated TVET components.
National Skills Strategy (NSS) 2009-2013 aims at providing relevant skills for industrial and economic development, assuring quality of training and improving access, equity and employment of young people.
GIZ’s involvement in the TVET sector of Pakistan is collectively funded by the European Union and the Governments of Netherlands, and the Federal Republic of Germany.
Sheikh Shakeel Ahmad Dhingra,Vice Presdient FPCCI, Mr.Zubair F.Tufail,former Vice President FPCCI,Begum Salma Ahmed VP FPCCI, Mr.Siddique Sheikh, Advisor on Social Sector of FPCCI, Ms.Farhana Iqbal,Chairperson FPCCI Standing Committee on CSR,Mrs.Shazia Amjad, Director, Technical Unit TVET Reform Support Programme, also participated in the meeting.
The interactive session was attended by a large number of technical and vocational educationists, experts, institutions, teachers from various cities of Pakistan. Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Associations and social sectors NGOs involved in skill development programes were also present.
This interactive session was initiated by Mr.Safdar Morawala, Chairman, FPCCI Standing Committee on Science,Technology and Technical Education. Mr.Safdar Morawala concluded the session and thanked GIZ team and NAVTTC for organizing this crucial meeting at FPCCI.
