Emir of Qatar concludes visit to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa (IINA) � Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani concluded on Tuesday a two-day visit to Ethiopia, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

During the visit, which came at the invitation from Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, the two leaders held bilateral talks during which they reiterated their strong commitment to promoting their countries ties of cooperation and friendship. They underscored the need for further cooperation on international and regional issues of mutual concern.

Both parties also stressed the importance of coordinating efforts with the international community in the fight against terrorism, which poses a major threat to international peace and security.

Prime Minister Desalegn commended Qatar's role in resolving conflicts in the Horn of Africa region, and in the Darfur region of western Sudan.

Sheikh Tamim, on his part, lauded Ethiopia's efforts in bringing peace and stability in the Horn of Africa Region within the framework of Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

The emir expressed the readiness of the State of Qatar to provide humanitarian assistance to drought-affected people across Ethiopia, and to support the government efforts in the development of education, health, infrastructure and energy. He further voiced Qatar's readiness to finance the establishment of a specialized hospital for kidney treatment in Ethiopia.

The two leaders agreed to strengthen the political dialogue and consultation between Qatar and Ethiopia, underlining their keenness to participate in the efforts of the international community to maintain peace and security in their respective regions and the world at large.

Sheikh Tamim's visit to Ethiopia is part of a three-nation Africa tour that would also take him to Kenya and South Africa.
